Most of us actually can say it correctly, our Dear Leader notwithstanding—and even he can say it correctly as long as he uses it in the phrase “nuclear family”. Odd, no?
Hehe - yup, I’ve never met an American in real life who mispronounced nuclear - but there seem to be a lot on TV. To be honest, I’d not realised it until it was in an episode of ‘The Simpsons’, and then I heard it EVERYWHERE!
Of course, there’s also the American pronunciation of ‘Premiere’ and ‘Notre Dame’ - but in fairness, the English either adopt or mangle any other language they come across too.
